Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to him who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says:
‘You shall indeed hear but never understand,
and you shall indeed see but never perceive.
For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and their ears are heavy of hearing,
and their eyes they have closed,
lest they should perceive with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their heart,
and turn for me to heal them.’
But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. Truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

The Secrets of Heaven
What jumps out at you today? Is there a word or a phrase or an idea? For me, it's this answer that Jesus gives, the beginning of his answer. To you, it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven.
To you, it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. The disciples are talking about. Jesus preaching in parables. They're talking about some people understand him, some people don't understand him. Well, you think about yourself, right? You're living out your faith. Some people understand that, some people don't understand that. Think about the central beliefs of our Catholic faith. You take, for example, belief in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
A lot of people don't get that, right?
And so Jesus is saying to you, you, to you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. That's part of it, right? Part of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. This is the gift of faith. It's an astounding thing. It has to be treasured and nurtured and appreciated.
Because Jesus is saying to you, to you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. And you meet people all the time. It hasn't been given to them. At least not yet. They don't understand it. They don't get it. They think you're crazy.
To you, been given. Given to you and to me. The question is: what are we going to do with it? What are we going to do with it? And then Jesus circles back to this at the end of his answer. He says, blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. Truly I say to you, many prophets and righteous men long to see what you see and did not see it, and hear what you hear and did not hear it. And so it is, right, for you.
So many millions and millions and millions of people throughout history never, not once, got to. Confess their sins and have their sins forgiven. Never not once got to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Never not once got to be able to pick up a book and read the life, the teachings, the words of Jesus Christ. Blessed are your eyes, for they see what they see and hear what they hear. And let us just be filled overwhelming gratitude because of that. Let's live grateful today. Have a great day. And remember, Be Bold. Be Catholic.
