Gospel

Jn 4:43-54

After the two days he departed to Galilee. For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they too had gone to the feast.

So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Caper´naum there was an official whose son was ill. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went his way. As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was living. So he asked them the hour when he began to mend, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live”; and he himself believed, and all his household. This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.

Hearing God’s Voice

Welcome back to Radical and Relevant. We're exploring the genius of Jesus, the Gospels, and Catholicism, and looking for one word, phrase, idea to take into our day so we can anchor our day in God and in the Gospels. Today's reading is from the Gospel of John Chapter 4 verses 43 to 54. "After the two days He departed to Galilee, for Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed Him, having seen all that He had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they, too, had gone to the feast. So He came again to Cana in Galilee, where He had made the water into wine. And at Capernaum, there was an official whose son was ill. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus said to him, 'Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe.'

The official said to Him, 'Sir, come down before my child dies.' And Jesus said to him, 'Go, your son will live.' The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went his way. And he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was living. So he asked them the hour when he began to mend. And they said to him, 'Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him.' The father knew that that was the hour that Jesus had said to him, 'Your son will live,' and he himself believed and all his household. This was now the second sign that Jesus did when He had come from Judea to Galilee."

What is it that strikes you today? What word, what phrase, what idea? What strikes me today is that the official believes Jesus. He takes Him at His Word. And that in and of itself is an act of faith. And I think very often we don't take God at His Word. We read God's Word and we don't take God at His Word. And so I think the question I would have for you today is, what is God saying to you and are you believing what God is saying to you at this time in your life? What is God calling you to? Are you believing that God is calling you to that at this time in your life? Remembering that our lives are full of seasons, and God calls us to different things in different seasons. What is God saying to you in this season of your life? What is God calling you to in this season of your life? God bless you. Have an amazing day. Be bold, be Catholic, and I will see you tomorrow.
