For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
“You have heard that it was said to the men of old, ‘You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be liable to the hell of fire. So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny."

Explore Your Anger
Welcome back to Radical & Relevant, where we are exploring the genius of the Daily Gospel. Remember each day we're looking for a word or a phrase or an idea that jumps out at you to anchor your day, to ponder throughout the day as a way to live the gospel today, to live the gospel each day. Today's reading is from the Gospel of Matthew 5:20-26. "For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. You have heard that it was said to the men of old, 'You shall not kill, and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.' But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment. Whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the counsel and whoever says you fool shall be liable to the hell of fire. So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Make friends quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. The word that jumps out at me today is angry. It's anger. What role does anger play in your life? What are you angry about at the moment? Who are you angry with or who are you angry at at the moment? And what is that anger saying to you? What are you being taught through that anger? How are you managing that anger? How are you making peace with that anger? How are you expressing that anger? Are you expressing it in healthy ways? Are you expressing it in unhealthy ways? And I think for many of us, the default position is to try and stuff the anger down, to bury the anger, to not express the anger. And then it begins to eat away at us inside. So today, I encourage you to explore your anger. What are you angry about? Who are you angry at? And how are you expressing that? How are you making peace with that?
